What are my obligations?
As an Energy Assessor, you're required by law to be a member of an Accreditation Scheme. You will also be required to be a fit and proper person to carry out satisfactory energy inspections - meaning a basic criminal record check. Find out more as to what a basic check will entail on Disclosures Scotland, which has an example of basic disclosure online.
Note that Disclosures Scotland are part of a group of organisations who are able to undertake criminal records checks, as required for Domestic Energy Assessor accreditation.
You'll be required to operate in line with the code of conduct and procedures published by the accreditation scheme. Failure to do so could mean suspension or disqualification.
Conducting Energy Assessments
Before carrying out an inspection, Energy Assessors have to obtain a unique property reference number from a central register. The energy assessment itself should be an independent inspection as governed by the accreditation scheme. Following the inspection, the Energy Assessor must lodge both the energy certificate and the associated recommendations on the central register with their accreditation scheme.
